Don't Be Discouraged

Discouragement is a feeling that comes upon many people at different times in their lives.
It can really do a work on people if we don’t get a handle on it. Let me help you with this right now.

The cures of discouragement:

a) The presence of God: David strengthened himself in God. Psalm 18:6- "having distress I called to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice. My cry came before him into his ears." To help overcome discouragement we need to deliberately get into the presence of God and tell him how we feel. Psalm 42:5,11- "Why are you downcast Oh my soul. Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him my Saviour and my God."

b) The people of God: David reached out to God’s people. He went to see Abiathar the priest. There is great strength in sharing joys and sorrows with other believers. If you are discouraged try encouraging someone else.

c) Be urgent in prayer to God: The devil uses discouragement as a device to turn us away from God. We can see it as something to turn us towards God and his resources.

d) Rely on the promises of God: David sought the Lord urgently in 1 Sam. 30:8 and was promised success. He believed the promise and saw success come. Believing God’s promises is an antidote for discouragement so we need to get to know them.

Are you discouraged? Keep the faith.
Are you down? Don’t quit now.
Are you sad? Stay strong.

When you’re discouraged change your thinking to thankfulness.
When you’re discouraged remind yourself of your Savior Jesus Christ.
When you’re discouraged search hard for a renewed purpose.

It’s only then you’ll discover a joy-filled faith and strength for this journey we call life.
